2 Corinthians 1:13 (NLT) "My letters have been straightforward, and there is nothing written between the lines and nothing you can't understand. I hope someday you will fully understand us,"

Beloved, God has given us the Holy Scriptures through His Spirit to reveal to us God’s ways, His will, His mind, His purposes and plans and blessings for us. Your ability to do well in this world is determined by how much understanding you have of God's Word.

The world may not understand the message of the Scriptures but it has been given to God’s people to understand the Word of God. Thus, we must seek to become Christians who have deep understanding of the Word of God because His Word is not hidden from us—it can be understood.

Here are three ways to easily understand God's Word:

1. Pray before you read the Scriptures.

Psalms 119:73 (NIV) says, "Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands."

As a child of God, God will give you understanding when you ask and seek to understand the Scriptures. Therefore, pray before you read God's Word and He will open the eyes of your understanding to know what He is saying through the Scriptures.

2. Listen to anointed teachers of the Word.

Acts 8:29-31 (NKJV) says, "Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go near and overtake this chariot.”

So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said,

“Do you understand what you are reading?”

And he said,

“How can I, unless someone guides me?”

God has appointed preachers and teachers of the Word in the Church to help give us understanding of the Scriptures. The Ethiopian eunuch when reading the book of Isaiah never understood it until God instructed Philip to explain everything to him. Listening to teaching messages easily makes us understand His Word.

3. Read the Word daily.

Acts 17:11 (NIV) says, "Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true."

Personally study and search the Word daily. This is especially important after hearing God’s Word preached because it will lead to deeper understanding and cause God’s Word to be firmly rooted in your heart. Such was the lifestyle of the Berean Jews: they searched the Scriptures daily; and we must follow this same practice to understand God's Word.

Precious one, the Word of God can only be a blessing to you when you understand it. To understand God's Word, pray before you read His Word, do it on a daily basis, and listen to preaching and teaching messages frequently.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, as I  read the Scriptures daily, help me to understand Your Word, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
