Proverbs 22:29 (NKJV), “Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men.”

A Christian who excels at his work is a reflection of God, who created the universe, declared it excellent and is still at work in our lives. As Christians, we are not to be slothful but must strive to excel at what we do.

We must work with excellence in mind at all times because we are a representation of God. Excelling in your work is not easy; it requires great effort. It’s challenging. It’s uncomfortable. We encounter obstacles, both expected and unexpected. It takes pushing, often beyond our sense of ability. But in the end, it’s undoubtedly worth it and exceedingly rewarding.

Here are three reasons why we must excel at our work:

1.  When we excel at our jobs we will have plenty. God uses our jobs to provide for our needs however when we excel at what we do, it paves way up and opens us up for plenty. The Bible says in

Proverbs 28:19 (EASY), “A farmer that works well will have plenty of food to eat. But the man that loves to dream during the day will always be poor.”

2. Excelling in our jobs is God’s Idea. From the very beginning, God created us to excel and flourish in our labour.

“Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion . . .” (Genesis 1:28).

God’s original plan for human life is to excel and dominate this world.

God designed us to employ energy and skills to produce for human flourishing. He wants us to be up and doing.

3. God rewards excellence. If you desire to excel in whatever God has called you to do, you must understand that God blesses excellence. God does not bless idleness or laziness; He rather rewards people who get results and work hard. The Bible says in

Proverbs 12:24 (GNBDC), “Hard work will give you power; being lazy will make you a slave.”

Hard work will give you power; being lazy will make you a slave. Precious one, excellence in life is attainable and is God’s will for us. However, it requires great effort. Therefore, don’t be idle or lazy, and God will bless your hard work.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, grant me the grace to excel in my field of endeavour in Jesus’ name. Amen.
