2 Corinthians 1:9 (NLT) "In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we learned not to rely on ourselves, but on God who can raise the dead."

As children rely on their parents for daily living and for basic needs in life, God, our heavenly Father, expects us His children to rely on Him for our needs. He is the Father who helps and gives to His children generously out of the riches of His glory by Christ Jesus.

Apostle Paul said "we learned not to rely on ourselves, but on God who can raise the dead." The circumstances we go through are only opportunities for us to learn to rely on God and not on ourselves. It is something we must learn and as we do, our heavenly Father will not forsake us.

Here are three reasons why we must rely on God:

1. Our sufficiency is from God.

2 Corinthians 3:5 (NKJV) says, "Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God,".

We must rely on God because He is our sufficiency. He richly provides for us at all times. The Psalmist said that God does not forsake the righteous and does not allow him to beg for bread, therefore rely on Him for sufficiency.

2. To have victory over our enemies.

"And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said to him: “Because you have relied on the king of Syria, and have not relied on the Lord your God, therefore the army of the king of Syria has escaped from your hand." – 2 Chronicles 16:7 (NKJV)

The arm of flesh will always fail us but relying on God will cause us to subdue and overcome our enemies and adversities. Keep gazing on His strength and power, for no one who puts His trust in Him will be put to shame. Your enemies will surely surrender to you as you rely on God.

3. To bring to pass our plans.

Psalms 37:5 says that "Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass."

God is the only one who can bring it to pass your desires and plans for your job, career, ministry, family, health and any other area of life. Rely and commit your ways unto Him for He will surely bring them to pass in your life.

Precious one, rely on God to be furnished with His sufficiency, to overcome adversaries and adversities, and that God will bring your expectations to pass.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, as I rely on You, let all my needs be sufficiently met, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
