Ephesians 4:2 (CEV) “Always be humble and gentle. Patiently put up with each other and love each other.”
The extent to which we put up with others in love validates and communicates our faith as Christians. One of the virtues we must learn to walk in is putting up with others in love because we are loved by God and we are called to love like Him.
Here are three ways to put up with one another in love:
1. Seek peace with all men. The Bible says in
Hebrews 12:14, “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord”.
As Christians, we must make every effort to live in peace with all men as that is also proof of our sonship with God. (Matthew 5:9)
2. Avoid vain discussions. As Christians, if we will put up with others in love, we must be watchful about the discussions we get involved in. Certain discussions only ruin our relationship with others. We must also demonstrate exemplary values whenever we get involved in any discussion.
Apostle Paul said to Titus,
“But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.”(Titus 3:9)
3. What we say to others will be judged by God. It is only by what comes out of us that will be judged. Let's, therefore, endeavour to watch what we say to others
“For by thy words, thou shalt be justified, and by thy words, thou shalt be condemned.” (Matthew 12:37).
Precious one, work at putting up with others in love as we are called to love like Jesus.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, give me a heart that loves like You that I may put up with others in love in Jesus’ name, Amen.
