James 2:17 (NIV) “In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”
In 1985, I held a crusade in the Eastern region of Ghana. In those days, before I went for a healing service, I would pray and worship till I felt the anointing. But on this particular day, since I couldn't feel the presence of God on my life, I wasn’t sure that God would heal the sick. However, as the Holy Ghost still impressed upon me to pray for the sick and hurting, I simply obeyed and laid hands on the sick. Immediately, several blind people got healed even before I started to feel the anointing come over me!
Indeed, mighty things will be done if we have faith. But many times our faith will be seen through our obedience.
Here are three things to note about faith:
1. Faith is not about feelings, but obedience. When faith is released through obedience to the word, the power of God will be unleashed to produce results. Therefore faith is not just a verbal expression but rather backed by action. The Bible asks us in James 2:14 (NIV),
“What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them?”
2. Obedience produces faith. In Acts 5:32, the Bible talks about
“the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him”.
So as we walk in obedience to God, He gives us the Holy Ghost, who in turn imparts faith to our hearts.
Obedience is the visible expression of invisible faith.
3. Faith becomes perfect through obedience. Faith can be measured through obedience. In other words, obedience is the visible expression of invisible faith. Abraham’s faith is cited as perfect faith in the Bible for his obedience (James 2:22). Our faith becomes perfect when we obey.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, cause my faith to increase as I obey You and propel me into new dimensions of faith in Jesus’ name,
Amen.
