Joshua 1:8 “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

A spiritual law we rarely realise is, our confessions rule us. The story is told of a young man who once approached a faith preacher after one of his sermons on faith. The man said to the preacher, “All you taught about faith and about the woman with the issue of blood, I know it’s all in the Bible but it doesn’t just work practically”. The preacher said, “It doesn’t”. “No” said the man. With a smile preacher said, “Isn’t it strange, that Jesus said, you’ll have whatever you say. So you got what you said. You said it does not work, so that’s exactly what you got”.

The man looked startled for a moment and said, “I see it!, I see it! I’ve got to turn that record over. It’s working for me on the negative side all the time”

Beloved, the majority of Christians, though sincere do not have good success because they never really confess what God’s word says about them. They have never dared to confess that they are what they say they are, that they have what the Bible says they have.

In fact, many maintain a wrong confession instead of holding fast to a right confession. A wrong confession is a confession of defeat, of failure, of doubt, of fear.

if you desire to be prosperous, it is important to keep the word of God in your mouth

Beloved it is important to keep the word of God in your mouth, if you desire to be prosperous. Below are three reasons why you need to keep the word of God in your mouth:

1. The confession of God’s word brings good success. In Joshua 1:8 Kjv, we see that to have good success the word of God must not depart from our mouths. This was an important key God gave to Joshua to practice in order to experience good success among other things.

2. Your confessions determines your situation. The truth is that, there are good and sincere believers who are in very difficult situations because of what came out of their own mouths . That’s why it’s very necessary to confess what is written in the word about your situation and life rather than confess how you feel. Proverbs 6:2 (NKJV) says that,

“You are snared by the words of your mouth; You are taken by the words of your mouth.”

3. Confession is a crucial part of our spiritual growth. Jesus demonstrated this in describing the essence of speaking His Father’s words and not His own:

“I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed” (John 8:28, 31).

Beloved, I encourage you to keep in your mouth continually what God’s word says about you.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus, as I keep the word in my heart and confess it continually, may the power of Your word be activated without measure in my life Amen.
