Psalm 118:1 (NKJV) “Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.”

What would you do if your boss called you to his office with the good news that he was planning to make a recommendation to the board of directors in the company to promote you to a new position with a huge salary increment?

It is very likely you would be very excited and you will probably give him a good handshake with words of appreciation.

The scripture above encourages us to give thanks to the Lord whether we have seen or not seen our breakthroughs or miracles.

In fact, I am sure you will go ahead to write a note thanking him for what has not yet happened. In the very same way, the scripture above encourages us to give thanks to the Lord whether we have seen or not seen our breakthroughs or miracles.

Let us look at three reasons why we must give God thanks:

1. He asked us to give Him thanks. In Psalm 95:2 (NKJV) we see that God say

“Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.”

God requires us to come before Him in thanksgiving.

2. It is good to give the Lord thanks. The Bible tells us in Psalm 92:1 (NKJV) that,

“It is good to give thanks to the Lord, And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High”.

Thanksgiving is so important that the Bible encourages us to give thanks to the Lord.

3. He has given us the greatest Gift of all—His Son. Christ died on the cross and rose again so that we can know Him personally and spend eternity with Him in heaven. This is an eternal reason to give thanks to God. That is why Paul said in 2 Corinthians 9:15 (NIV) that,

“Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!”

Precious one, you must develop a habit of always giving God thanks. As you continually give Him thanks, may He increase you on every side.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, grant me the grace to consistently give You thanks and make me a testimony to those who know me as I give you thanks in Jesus’ Name.
