2 Timothy 2:22 (NIV) “Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”

God in His infinite wisdom put a sex drive in every human being to desire the opposite sex (except they are celibate) yet every man is expected to control this drive in order to avoid yielding to sexual temptations.

Most people would ask how to overcome this sexual attraction to the opposite sex. Unfortunately, nobody can live without these sexual urges (except they are celibate) but the good news is, God has provided us with grace to avoid falling into sin when we are driven by these sexual urges.

A victory over this, is extremely important for us as Christians, who would be “of use” in the house of God. And we must train ourselves to subdue these desires. Here are 3 ways by which you can keep yourselves pure and flee evil desires :

1. Know you are a new creature. As Christians, our old self is dead and a new self created in Christ. The Bible says in Romans 6:6 that,

“Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.”

2. Renew your mind. Romans 12:2 maintains that,

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

As Christians we are not to follow the ungodly expectations of the world today but to be renewed in mind wholly in strict accordance with God's word.

3. Study and obey the word of God. Psalm 119:9 states that,

“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.”

In studying the word of God and obeying what He says we gather strength to overcome sin.

Precious one, develop self control, don’t yield to sexual sin but pursue purity and your life would never be the same.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, grant me the grace to develop self control, flee evil desires and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
