Does the Devil gain authority or advantage when the believer sins ?

Before reading this, you must first understand that this is by no means an encouragement to sin. As a matter of fact, the Bible says that a born again believer who remains in sin will not inherit the kingdom of God, in other words, will go to Hell. Yeah... If you stay in sin, you will go to hell even though you have been born again by accepting Christ as Lord and saviour, even though you have been baptized with Holy Ghost and spoke in tongues.

Galatians 5:19-21  Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall NOT inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were  sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

Paul was speaking to born again, Spirit-filled church of Galatians and Corinths that any born again believer who remains continually in sin will NOT inherit the Kingdom of God. These epistles were not written to unbelievers but to believers. The unbeliever does not need to stop sinning to be saved, all He or she needs is to repent and accept Jesus. But the one who has accepted Jesus must stop sinning.

Now, what happens when the believer falls into sins. Does the Devil gain authority over him? Should the believer pray and break the authority of the believer over himself after he has sinned? We have heard of man believer praying and destroying the authority of the devil or demons over them, is that scriptural?

No scripture shows believers losing their authority because they have fallen into sin. Again remember, this is NOT to encourage any believer to sin but to teach the truth, the word of God. When the believer sins, he gives the devil an ADVANTAGE, a head start over him but NOT AN AUTHORITY.

2 Corinthians 2:11 Lest Satan should get an ADVANTAGE of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

When you sin, you allow the Devil to outwit you,  you give him a head-start over you, a piece of evidence in court, an advantage in a race and a hold on something related to you. When you sin, you allow the Devil to outwit you,  you give him a head-start over you, a piece of evidence in court, an advantage in a race and a hold on something related to you. The devil does not have ANY AUTHORITY over you but he does get an advantage when you sin especially when you remain in sin. Your own sins are the weapon Satan uses to accuse you and make you feel guilty while praying, accuse you and demand that your prayers should not be granted.

You still have your authority and you can exercise your authority fully, especially after you have repented from the sin. The Lord Jesus gave you unconditional authority. You can still use your authority against any fleshly desire or any demonic spirit that pushes you to sin.

Luke 10:19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Do not let the devil deceive you, you still have authority over Satan, Demons and all powers of darkness, however, if you want to see your authority in full manifestation, YOU MUST live a life of holiness and sanctification.

So you can pray and command Satan to break his hold over you or your family or to take his hand off your finances. But it is unscriptural to pray and break Satan's authority over you because SATAN HAS NO AUTHORITY OVER A BORN AGAIN BELIEVER.
