1 Corinthians 9 :25 “And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things...”
Anyone can be successful in life, but discipline is what will help him maintain that success.
The story is told of a boxer, Lenox Lewis, who lost the World Heavyweight title in 2001. Lenox admitted that he didn’t prepare very well because he thought he was a champion.
However, after secluding himself on a mountain for six months, he went back for a rematch and regained his title!
Temperate, according to the Oxford Dictionary, is defined as showing moderation or self-restraint. In the above scripture, Paul stresses the point that, for anyone to achieve mastery in his field, he must necessarily exhibit discipline.
Beloved, for you to be among the top 10% in your vocation, you need discipline. Here are three things a lack of discipline will lead to:
1. Loss of position. The effectiveness of Former US President Clinton dwindled to almost nothing when his affair with Monica Lewinsky was exposed.
2. Shame and loss of respect. Diego Armando Maradona was known as one of the best football players of his time, and his talent was undeniable. However, this legend was banished from international football as he was guilty of using banned drugs.His beautiful career was brought to an end, and he was disgraced, as a result of his lack of discipline.
3. Bad reputation. Not only did the well-known figures listed above experience disgrace and loss of respect, but they also received a bad reputation. And unfortunately, whenever their names are mentioned, there is stigma attached to them.
Precious one, your skills and talent may get you to the top, but you definitely need discipline to maintain your success.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I ask for the grace to stay disciplined in every aspect of my life in Jesus’ name. Amen
