Mark 8:22,26 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him…And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.

Bishop Charles AgyinasareIn reading this scripture, have you ever asked yourself, “Why, in His infinite power, did Jesus need to touch this blind man several times for his miracle to be complete?” This scripture demonstrates something very important about the way God often operates when He seeks to make a long-term change in our lives. It is a process – with each touch from Jesus, a new dimension of our transition is released.

We all know that a single touch from God could completely change our situation, but would we be ready for that immediate turnaround? Would we even have the capacity to handle all that God wants to do? Can we be trusted, in our current state, not to squander our blessings ? Are our surroundings conducive to accommodate the new “us”?

Using the story of the blind man and how Jesus touched him, scripture reveals the process of transition for us:

#1. The first touch: a change in location.
The scripture reads: “He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village.” The first thing God did to change his life was to change his location. Often, God needs to isolate us to truly work in us. This is the only way to establish sole and true reliance on Him. You will not truly learn to trust God until you have nowhere else to turn.

#2. The second touch: a restoration of perspective.
The second touch occurred when Jesus spat on the man’s eyes and touched him, subsequently asking him, “Do you see anything ?” In response, the man said that he saw “people…like trees walking around.” After the blind man was moved by God, the next thing He did was to restore his perspective. Many times, we need our perspective to change from the old way of seeing things, to focusing on God’s word, and how He expects us to do things. Essentially, we need to have the mindset of Christ (Philippians 2:5).

#3. The third touch: a life change.
The third touch restored the man’s sight completely. It is after we have gone through the process of changing our surroundings, and changing our perspective, that God can truly complete His work in our lives.

However, precious one, take heed to the final warning from Jesus after He healed the man: “Don’t even go into the village.” It is tempting, once things have turned around, for many of us to yearn for what we once knew. However, just as we must align our will with God's to find our true blessing, we must also remain aligned to maintain our blessing.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, touch me and change my life completely, and help me to maintain Your blessings in my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen
