For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7
Fear, according to the Merriam-Webster's dictionary, is an unpleasant often strong emotion caused by expectation or awareness of danger.
Research has it that there are so many kinds of fear, some of which are: hydrophobia, the fear of water; nyctophobia, the fear of darkness; acrophobia, the fear of high places; taphophobia, the fear of being buried alive; necrophobia, the fear of the dead; and claustrophobia, the fear of confined places.
Fortunately, when God created us, He didn't put in us the spirit of fear. And those who have learned to fear things that they shouldn’t, haven’t learned the fear of God. Just a few have learned to fear God and to keep His commandments.
Matthew 10:28 NKJV cautions us not to fear things that kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Furthermore, fear is something we need to overcome daily. That’s why the Bible cautions us at least 356 times not to fear—a “fear not” for each day of the year.
Here are 3 reasons why we need to overcome fear :
#1.God has not given us the spirit of fear.
Fear is not something God gave us. The Bible says in
2 Timothy 1:7, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
Since this spirit is not from God, we cannot embrace it in our lives.
#2. Fear is the opposite of faith.
In Hebrews 11:1 KJV, we learn that faith is a substance of things hoped for. Fear, on the other hand, according to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, is an expectation of danger. Fear does the opposite of what faith accomplishes. Have faith and fear not.
#3.The only fear you need to have is the fear of God.
God is the only Person we need to fear. The Bible says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom . Proverbs 9:10, NKJV
Precious one, don’t entertain fear in any form for the Lord is with you.
Prayer : Heavenly Father, I reject the spirit fear, and ask that You release a spirit of faith in my life, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
