Psalm 23:1 “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
The twenty-third Psalm is one of the most commonly known scriptures of the Bible. There are probably many people who learnt to recite it ever before reading it from the Bible.
To relate to us, God reveals Himself in many forms so that we can comprehend His nature and character. According to Scripture, God is a Father, a Judge, a King, a Farmer, among others; and with each revelation comes its blessings.
Psalm 23 reveals the Lord as our Shepherd, and poetically, shows us the blessings of the Shepherd. We must not only know this Psalm by heart but we must live it by closely walking with the Shepherd to enjoy His ministry.
(What blessings can we expect when led by God as our shepherd?
What are the possible signs that may follow us when we are led by God as our good Sheperd?)
Here are three blessings to expect from our Good Shepherd:
1. Having all our needs met.
Psalm 23:1 says, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”.
This means we shall not lack any essential and desirable thing. When we submit to the Shepherd, we will not lack or be deficient in provision for our sustenance, our protection, and our desires. We can expect all our needs to be met according to
Philippians 4:19, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus”.
2. Resting in prosperity. The second verse says,
“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures.”
“To lie down” implies rest and “green pastures” implies a flourishing place. Like Adam in the garden of Eden, we will work without sweating or struggling; our work will be restful and flourishing. When we try to make ourselves lie down, we struggle; but when we rely on Him, we enter into His rest.
3. Enjoying peace in the midst of chaos. Psalm 23:2b says,
“He leadeth me beside the still waters.”
There is enough reason to be anxious and troubled every single day because we are surrounded by much evil and uncertainties of life. We may have heard of someone who just died or went down with a sickness or lost a job or suffered some predicament and we are scared because it feels like we are going to be the next victim. But in Christ Jesus are the waters of quietness and peace. And He will keep us in perfect peace if our mind stays on Him (Isaiah 26:3).
Precious one, let us not be as sheep going astray, depending on our own strength but call upon the name of the Lord, your Shepherd and you will experience divine supply, prosperity, and peace in your life.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I confess You as my Lord and Shepherd. I cast all my cares upon You because You care for me; I thank You for supernatural supply, prosperity, and peace in my life, going forward, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
