Jeremiah 10:23 “Oh Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.”
Man was not created to live independently of God, his Creator. Beginning with Adam, Satan has succeeded in luring man to go his own way and to make his own decisions outside divine influence; and this has been the source of all human problems.
The successful life and ministry of Jesus was due to the fact that He did the will of the Father by the leading of the Holy Spirit. He declares in the Scriptures, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise” (John 5:19). The children of God must emulate the example of Jesus. However, in order to be led of God, we must be able to hear Him.

How can you be led by the Spirit of God?
How can I hear God's voice on my own?
Here are three ways to help you hear from God:
1. Desire to hear from Him. God created man as a free moral agent and therefore respects the choice of individuals. Thus, He will not push His will on you if you don’t desire to know Him. The Bible says in
Jeremiah 29:13, “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” And so first of all, we must have a desire to hear from Him and to be led by Him.
2. Delight in the written word of God. The Psalmist says,
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path”. Psalm 119:105
The written word of God is God’s revealed will to us. To live by the word of God is to be led by God. To reject His word is to reject His authority and influence over your life. Reading the Bible meditatively and listening to preaching are means by which we hear from God to live successful lives.
3. Listen to your spirit. Scripture says that,
“The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly.” (Proverbs 20:27).
God, by His Spirit, guides us through our spirits; and we receive this guidance as an inward witness. We must pay attention to and be guided by the feeling of discomfort or of peace that comes to our spirit concerning the issues of life. Getting away from distractions and being quiet before God, also helps greatly in hearing from Him.
Precious one, many of the problems of life can be avoided or solved if we would listen to God to know His will by having a desire to hear from Him, delighting in the written word of God and listening to our spirit.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I desire to be led by You; guide me by Your Word and help me to be more sensitive to the voice of Your Spirit in my heart always, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
