1 Corinthians 10:10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.

The story is told of a young gentleman called Kojo, who had a habit of murmuring at the food his wife placed before him at family meals. Then he would ask the blessing. One day after his usual combination murmuring-prayer, his little girl, Aba asked, “Daddy, does God hear us when we pray?” “Why, of course!,” Kojo replied. “He hears us every time we pray.” Little Aba paused on this a moment, and asked, “Does He hear everything we say the rest of the time?
Yes, dear, every word,” he replied, encouraged that he had inspired his daughter to be curious about spiritual matters.

However, his pride was quickly turned to humility at his daughter’s next question.

Then, which does God listen to, our prayers or murmurings?

Most Christians pray a little while, then the next minute, murmur when their breakthrough delays. Murmuring is very corrosive and can even rob us of our blessings. Most of the time, this is exactly what Christians do: we pray a little while, thank God, then the next minute, we are murmuring when our breakthrough delays. According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, murmuring is a half-suppressed or muttered complaint; it could also be a suppressed protest. Christians mutter complaints when their prayers don’t get an immediate response from God or when they find themselves in a trying situation.

The act of murmuring is something we need not get ourselves into precisely when it comes to our communication with God. Murmuring is very corrosive and can even rob us of our blessings.

When we mix prayer with murmurings we burn our blessings that accompany the answers to our prayers. God hears us when we call; so does He when we murmur. Like little Aba’s question, which one should God listen to?

In the Bible, Miriam was struck with leprosy when she murmured. Even after Moses prayed for her and she was healed, she was sentenced by God to seven days of humiliation outside of the camp.

Precious one, murmuring is corrosive. It burns God’s blessing and grace available to us. Why not thank God instead of murmuring?

Prayer:Heavenly Father, help me to desist from murmuring in Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
