2 Chronicles 20:20b (NIV) “Have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful.”
Dooner Atwood once shared an interesting illustration. During the terrible days of the Blitz, a father, holding his small son by the hand, ran from a building that had been struck by a bomb. In the front yard was a shell hole. Seeking shelter as quickly as possible, the father jumped into the hole and held up his arms for his son to follow. Terrified, yet hearing his father's voice telling him to jump, the boy replied, "I can't see you!"
The father, looking up against the sky tinted red by the burning buildings, called to the silhouette of his son, "But I can see you. Jump!" The boy jumped because he had faith in his father. As believers, we overcome challenging situations and break through in life because of our faith in God. It took nothing short of faith in God to come this far. Here are 3 reasons why you must have faith in God:
1. We please God by faith. The primary quality of a life that pleases God is faith. The Bible says in
Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV), “But without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
2. We walk by faith. Walking by faith means obeying God all the days of our lives. There is no substitute for this. As Paul wrote in
2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV), “For we walk by faith, not by sight”.
To walk by faith we need to receive the word into our hearts; and as soon as we do, faith is generated.
3. Faith is a shield.
“Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one” (Ephesians 6:16, NKJV).
In the spiritual realm, the Devil fights believers with spiritual fiery darts which he shoots to cause instant damage in their lives or properties. But with faith as a shield, the believer is covered.
Precious one, faith is an absolute requirement for Christian living. Without it, it is impossible to please God. With it, however, we shall be protected from every fiery darts of the enemy.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, as I build my faith in You, let my life be filled with testimonies in Jesus’ name, Amen.
