2 Corinthians 5:20 (NIV) We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.

More often than not, officials appointed to the office of an ambassador deem it no mean privilege or honour to occupy such a high office. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, an ambassador is a diplomatic agent of the highest rank accredited (sent) to a foreign government/sovereign as the representative of his own government/sovereign or appointed for a special assignment.

The introductory verse reminds Christians of their call as ambassadors of Christ. As an ambassador, every Christian has been charged with the specific assignment of reconciling men to God, that is, evangelising our world. If men find it honourable to represent earthly kingdoms (governments) and mortal kings (sovereigns), how much more honourable would it be to be an ambassador of heaven, a representative of the King of kings! Here are three privileges ambassadors of Christ enjoy:

1. Divine immunity. In Luke 10:19, Jesus assures His ambassadors of immunity against the attacks of the enemy. The life of an ambassador of Christ is hardly a playground for the enemy.

2. Divine inviolability. To be inviolable means to be secure from violation; to be secure from destruction, violence, infringement, or desecration. In Luke 10:1-2, Jesus’ disciples returned with joy after going to preach and testified, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.” Demons by nature are responsible for conditions that result in acts of violence like madness, sickness and destruction.  But they are subject to the ambassadors of Christ.

3. Divine exemption. Whereas a diplomatic agent enjoys exemption from taxation, other citizens in the nation who do not have diplomatic status are subject to pay taxes. Just like we see in 1 Samuel 17:25, when you commit to the King’s assignment, you are allowed to enjoy what is the preserve of those appointed by the King, and this includes favour.

Precious one, it is an honour to be enlisted as an ambassador of Christ. Pursue the mission of reconciling men unto God and connect to divine immunity, inviolability, and exemption.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, may great grace come upon me to evangelise my world as an ambassador of Christ, in Jesus’ name.
