Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
On the day of Pentecost, the believers received the baptism of the Holy Spirit as promised by Jesus, and they spoke in tongues. Every believer who is baptised with the Holy Ghost can speak in tongues, and it is necessary for them to do so. Devotional tongues are spoken for personal edification.
The Scripture confirms that God, in His infinite wisdom, desires strongly that we speak in tongues (1 Corinthians 14:5). Devotional tongues can operate anywhere for edification – in your home, car, school or workplace. Through this practice, you are sharpened and built up spiritually.
Speaking in devotional tongues has key advantages that every believer should be aware of:
#1. The Spirit helps you in prayer.
“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered” (Romans 8:26).
#2. It builds up the spirit man.
“He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church” (1 Corinthians 14:4). To edify is to build up, so speaking in tongues builds you up.
#3. It transforms the life of the believer.
“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost (Titus 3:5). As you speak in tongues, the power of the Holy Ghost reaches down to the recesses of your life and helps you deal with your inner life, affecting your desires, thoughts, and many others.
Precious one, it is crucial to speak in tongues continually, so we enrich our lives.
