Romans 10:17 (NKJV) “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

When I started out as a young minister over thirty-five years ago, my parents were not rich enough to give me the much-needed financial support.
I had to rely on my faith in God to produce results. I have come this far as a Christian and a minister of God by total reliance on God through faith.
Here are three fundamental things to note if we want to build our faith in God:

1. We can only justify our faith by what we do in response to what we have heard. The Bible says in

Numbers 23:19, “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? Or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?”

After hearing some of the promises of God like the above scripture, we need to complete the faith cycle by acting on what we heard. The hearing is necessary, but if we do nothing in response, it doesn’t lead to biblical faith.

2. The Bible kind of faith is a doing faith, not just a hearing faith. Faith is knowing what God says He would do and acting on it. Until we act on the word of God, our faith isn’t complete. The epistle of Saint James says,

“Faith without works is dead” (James 2:26).

Apostle Paul adds that,

“For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified” (Romans 2:13).

3. Until we know what God says, it is not possible to have faith. Faith begins with knowing what God is saying or what He has said. Until we know what God says, it is not possible to have faith. We know what God says in His word, which is the Bible. Apostle Paul says in

Romans 10:17, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

It is therefore almost impossible to practise true faith without knowing the Bible. A man of faith must necessarily be a man of the Bible because the word of God is the basic foundation on which true faith stands. Knowledge of the Scriptures is therefore essential to the operation of faith.

Precious one, to build your faith always remember that the Bible kind of faith is a doing faith, not just a hearing faith; and until we know what God says, it is not possible to have faith.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, as I get to know You more and know Your Word, strengthen me in faith, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
