2 Kings 2:9 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
In our world today, where the needs of this generation are different from and even greater than those of previous generations, what we need is the double portion anointing. This type of anointing will cause us to do greater works than Jesus did.
Elisha received the double portion of Elijah’s spirit, which became the benchmark of the double portion anointing. The double portion anointing is the extra measure of grace for the delivery of a given assignment. The purpose of the anointing is to bless others, and, in order to receive a double portion anointing in your life for great exploits, you must be willing to:
#1. Break from the past. It is not possible to receive a double portion when we still hold on to the past. When Elisha decided to follow Elijah, he killed the oxen, fed them to his labourers, and went after Elijah (1 Kings 19:19). The significance of this act is breaking with the past and moving on with the call of God.
#2. Follow Paul’s example. “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before” (Philippians 3:13). Paul pressed on to the high calling of God in Christ. Our best days are still in the future irrespective of any successes we may have chalked in the past, so we need to focus our minds on what we seek to become.
#3. Serve to receive the anointing. The easiest road to the anointing is service; it is a doorway to the release of unction. Pride and a haughty spirit disqualify many people from receiving the anointing, because such people esteem themselves too highly to serve others.
Precious one, may you turn to God with an unbridled passion and dedication to seek the anointing of the Spirit, until you are saturated with His glorious presence and power!
Prayer:Heavenly Father, thank You for making Your anointing available to me. Help me to walk in a double portion of the anointing, in Jesus’ name. Amen
