Galatians 4:19 (NKJV) “My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you”
The Early Church fathers prayed for the stability and establishment of the new converts. They did not leave the new converts to see to their own personal growth but carried them in their bosom till they were mature. They had a passion for souls to be saved, and laboured for them to be established.
Heaven rejoices when a soul is won, but the Church grows stronger when a soul is established in Christ. Let’s not be religious about just counting how many souls we have won, but let us rather labour fervently as we seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance and teachings into what we need to do to bring new converts to the full formation of the Christ character.
Here are three ways to help new converts:
1. Continuously guide them out of their old ways. We must consciously follow up on new converts to find out what they are using their time for. We must be interested in the kind of materials they are reading and what they are committing their resources to. This way, we know they are not slipping into their old ways.
2. Link them to a mature believer. We may not necessarily be the ones establishing them but we can be the bridge they walk on towards that journey. As we suggest other believers for counsel, it makes the work of the Body of Christ simpler. Sometimes all we have to do is plant them at the right place for another to water.
3. Help them to get involved in ministry. We can utilise their God-given gifts by plugging them into active ministry. Encouraging them to be part of a small group in the church will be the first step, and then later we can explore other ways in which they can serve in the house of God with their potential.
Precious one, let us not leave any sheep unattended to in God’s house. We owe ourselves and God a duty of care to make sure we attend to every soul that came for pasture in His Kingdom.
