I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. Acts 20:35

Charles AgyinasareHave you ever thought to yourself, “If I had more money, I would give more”? According to statistics, Forbes estimated that there were 946 billionaires in 2007 and they gave an average of 1.2% of their income to charitable causes.

This goes to show that, having more doesn’t necessarily translate to giving more, without being disciplined about doing so. As Christians, it is even more important to be generous with whatever amount of money God has entrusted to us, no matter how big or small. In fact, since we belong to God, and everything we have belongs to Him, we are merely stewards over what is His.

The following are reasons for being good stewards of God’s money: You don’t give because God needs it, but because you need it...We cannot pay for grace, but we can show our appreciation for it by giving to others and the work of God.

#1. In acknowledgement of God’s ownership.
You don’t give because God needs it, but because you need it. In the Garden of Eden, God set aside one tree, and told man to leave it alone. Why did He do this? To remind Adam that He is the owner of all things. It is a truth we should never forget. Psalm 50:1-12.

#2. In appreciation of Divine grace.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8-9.

We cannot pay for grace, but we can show our appreciation for it by giving to others and the work of God.

#3. In surrender of our lives and talents to Him.
Money is the most tangible expression of your value in this world. When you offer your money to God for His use, you are demonstrating surrender of your life and talent to Him.

Precious one, the best protection we have against the sorrows that come from loving money is to cultivate generous hearts. Look for opportunities to use the resources God has given you to bless others and build His Kingdom.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be an addicted giver and a good steward over Your money, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
