For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 1 Timothy 6:10, Kjv

Bishop Charles AgyinasareA story is told about a man who found out it was his time to go to Heaven. He asked the Lord if he could bring just one thing. The Lord said, “No”. Finally, after many requests the Lord said, “You can bring one thing.” Happily, the man packed his suitcase full of gold.

When he arrived in Heaven the angels said, “Sorry you can’t bring that in here.” He said, “The Lord said I could.” “Okay,” they said. “By the way, what’s in there?” The man opened the bag, and they looked in. Then an angel said, “Oh. It’s pavement.

It’s easy for us to love and trust in riches, forgetting that human riches are of no value in eternity. If God blesses us and we begin to accumulate financial resources, we must be on guard against them becoming idols in our hearts.

Paul instructed his protégé Timothy to issue a warning to the rich members in his church:

“Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy”. 1 Timothy 6:17, Kjv.

Money is important, but we need not fall in love with money.

Here are 3 things you should know about money:

#1. Money is important.
Bible says in

Ecclesiastes 10:19 kjv, “A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things.”

Money is important, and without it, it is difficult to get things done..

#2. You can’t serve God and money.
In Matthew 6:24 Kjv, we are told,

“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”

Beloved, let your love be for God, not money.

#3. Money can fail.
Money failed in Egypt in

Genesis 47:15, Kjv : “And when money failed in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came unto Joseph, and said, Give us bread: for why should we die in thy presence? for the money faileth.”

Lovers of money are found wanting when money fails.

Precious one, remember King Solomon’s advice in

Proverbs 23:4-5, kjv, “Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.”

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to guard my heart from the love of money, and rather have a heart that is set on You, in Jesus’ name, Amen
