A wise man once said, “A man has not more character than he can command in a crisis.”
Character can be defined as inner qualities or moral qualities that form the pattern of an individual's behaviour.
In this life, what will distinguish you from others as a child of God is Christian character. Building Christian character is therefore a must, not an option. It is not a gift but a virtue developed over time by both the input of man and by the help of the Holy Spirit.
Here are 3 ways to develop Christian character:
#1. Have a desire and determination
The Bible says in Daniel 1:8 kjv that,
“Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.”
Desire for good character is good, but, unless it is accompanied by a determined mind, it will remain a wish.
#2. Get the help of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the Teacher of the word of God which is used to shape the character of the believer. Jesus said in John 14:26 kjv that,
“The Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”
#3. Keep wise company
The company people keep either makes or mars them. To develop excellent godly character demands that a man keep company with godly wise men and avoid the friendship of foolish men.
Precious one, as you work on your character privately, may the Lord reward you publicly.
