Psalm 23:4 ”Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”

Psalm 23 is the expression of David’s absolute trust and confidence in God in the face of many adversaries. As he was raised as a shepherd himself, he had kept his father’s sheep and had delivered them from a lion and a bear. He knew his sheep could trust him; and if a mere young boy could keep and provide for his sheep, how much more shall the great Shepherd keep His own.
We have already seen from the first couple of verses in this Psalm that when the Lord is our Shepherd, we will not lack any good thing, He will make us rest in prosperity and He will give us peace in the midst of chaos.

(Are there other blessings we can receive when we are led by God as our Shepherd ?)

Here are three other blessings we receive from our Shepherd:

1. He restores our soul. Many have suffered much disappointment in life, and as a result, some have lost all hope and given up, others are brokenhearted and others are contemplating suicide. But Jesus calls out to such,

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me… and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” (Matthew 11:28-29)

2. He leads us in the paths of righteousness. Psalm 32:8 says,

“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.”

By His Word He leads us to pray, to attend church, to give and to live holy lives. He does not lead us to steal, cheat and do things that will give the devil an opening to afflict us. He also leads us to make the right choices in marriage, in business, in ministry, in our finances, etc.

3.  He gives us victory in the midst of our enemies. Psalm 23:5 says,

“Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies”.

With the Lord as our Shepherd, our lives will be full of joy and victories despite satanic assaults; our jobs and businesses will be blessed despite an unstable economy; we will enjoy good health despite disease outbreaks. In the midst of our enemies, the Lord will cause us to enjoy the pleasures at His right hand for evermore. (Psalm 16:11)

Precious one, the Lord has promised to never forsake us. Let us have confidence in His presence and He will restore our weary souls, He will lead us in the right paths and cause us to rise above our enemies.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I ask that Your peace will flood my heart to restore hope and faith in me; continually lead me so that I will enjoy Your blessings, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
