Matthew 14:23 (AMP) "And after He had dismissed the multitudes, He went up into the hills by Himself to pray. When it was evening, He was still there alone."
Joyce Meyer once said, “Spending time with God through prayer and His Word is a prerequisite for having a great life and fulfilling your purpose.” The earthly ministry of Jesus Christ was characterised by His constant fellowship with God in prayer. This gave much impetus to His public ministrations. As emulators of Jesus Christ, failure will be inevitable if we don’t spend time with God in the same way. Here are some benefits of spending time with God:
1. Spending time with God keeps us from falling into temptations.
Matthew 26:41 says, "Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."
Tarrying in prayer before God strengthens our inner man and makes it easy to overcome temptation.
2. Spending time with God guarantees safety. The Psalmist writes in the book of
Psalms 91:1, "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty."
This simply means we ought to stay and remain in prayer continuously to abide under God's mighty protection. This is the only guaranty of continual safety.
3. Spending time with God guarantees strength and longevity.
In Isaiah 40:31, the Bible says, "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
Waiting on God is spending time in prayer to see Him act – to deliver, to save, to avenge, to answer our prayers, to provide for our needs, to renew our strength, to reveal His glory, and to do what only He can do. Each believer is guaranteed God's supernatural power and strength as long as he waits on, tarries patiently, or spends quality time in prayer before God.
Precious one, for a real and permanent transformation of our lives, for safety, strength, longevity, and power to live above sin, spending quality time with God in prayer is a must.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to get rid of every form of hindrance or limitation to my spending time with You, in Jesus’ name.Amen.
