Hebrews 12:5 My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of Him.

Today’s scripture shows us that when God sees our lack of character, He will bring into our lives what we need by crushing and pressing just like the winemaking process.

The core of today’s message is God’s transformative power to mould us from our old lives into new ones through His lovely rebuke. For Christians, there is an “old man” and a “new man.” The old man represents the life we had before conversion, and the new man, the new wine, is the life that comes because of conversion.

Our old lives, our old ways, are entirely incompatible with the new wine. And we arrive at our new life which is the new wine, produced by God’s lovely rebuke.

Here are 3 benefits of being rebuked:

1. Rebukes cleanse us and purify our hearts. Scripture tells us that,

“Blows that hurt cleanse away evil, as do stripes the inner depths of the heart” (Proverbs 20:30 NKJV).

2. Rebukes spare us from disaster and unforeseen consequences.

“He who is often rebuked, and hardens his neck, will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy” (Proverbs 29:1 NKJV).

3. Rebukes lead to wisdom and understanding.

“He who disdains instruction despises his own soul, but he who heeds rebuke gets understanding” (Proverbs 15:32 NKJV).

Precious one, don’t take the holy rebuke for granted, for in the crushing and the pressing the Lord is making new wine out of you. Don’t despise it but rather endure it as new wine is gradually being made out of you.

Prayer : Heavenly Father, help me endure Your rebuke as it builds me into a better creation in Jesus’ name, Amen.
