Matthew 24:3,12 “...What shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? ... the love of many shall wax cold”
When our love is at its peak, it is quite easy to notice it through our willingness to sacrifice and our devotion. Time and space would not permit me to tell into details the extent I was willing to go for Vivian even before we got married, simply because of my love for her.
Similarly, if your love for God is hot and at its peak, you would always be ready and willing to go the full nine yards for Him.
If our love for God is a major determinant for our place with God in the happenings of the Last Days, then we need to examine if our love for God is still hot or has become cold. Here are three signs to show where our love is:
1. A desire for God’s house. Hebrews 10:25 identifies the canker of staying away from church fellowship as a sign of the Last Days and warns us against it. David, who loved God so much as revealed through the Scriptures, practically demonstrated to God’s people today that love for God’s house by going to church and having an insatiable desire to be there (Psalms 122:1) is a sign of deep love for God.
2. A heart for souls. Jesus, in John 14:15, prescribes how to express our love towards Him: by keeping His commandments. If there is any command or instruction the Lord has been emphatic about, it is that of “making disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19-20), and getting sinners saved and established in Christ.
3. A hatred of sin. Just like the love of money is the root of all evil, so will the love for sin deracinate your love for God. 2 Timothy 3:1-4 is a vivid description of how lovers of unrighteousness and worldly pleasures cannot love God as they should.
Precious one, if your desire to go to church is waning, your heart is not beating for souls that are perishing, and you have developed a lukewarm attitude to sin and a sinful lifestyle, then be careful; unless you repent, it would cost you dearly.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, as I look forward to the Second Coming of Christ, let my love for You never go cold, and set my heart always ablaze for You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
