“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1 NKJV

Some years ago, during a time of great drought, the Scottish preacher Dr. Guthrie prayed for rain in the morning service. As he went to church in the afternoon, his daughter, Mary, said, “Here is the umbrella, Papa.

What do we need it for,” he asked. “You prayed for rain this morning, and don't you expect God will send it?

They carried the umbrella, and when they came home they were glad to take shelter under it from the drenching storm.

Dr. Guthrie's daughter had faith in God and believed in her father's prayer, so she acted on it. Like the Bible says in

Hebrews 11:1 NKJV, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Dr. Guthrie’s daughter did not only have the substance of expectation of rain that day, but she acted on it even though there was no sign of it!

The subject of faith is one of my favourites. And I have come this far as a Christian and minister of God by the total reliance on faith.

Bishop Charles Agyinasare, Founder and Presiding Bishop of Perez Chapel InternationalI started my ministry in the poorest rural communities of Ghana and later moved on to an Islamic stronghold in the northern part of Ghana. And it took nothing short of faith in God to do ministry in such places in those days. God saw me through because I had faith in Him.

Here are 3 reasons why you must have faith :

#1. We please God by faith.
The only life that pleases God is a life of faith. When we live by faith our lives are pleasing to God. The Bible says in

Hebrews 11:6 NKJV, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

#2.We walk by Faith.
Walking by faith means obeying God all the days of our lives. Walking by faith means obeying God all the days of our lives. There is no substitute for this. As Paul wrote in

2 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV, “For we walk by faith, not by sight,”

to walk by faith, we need to receive the word into our hearts; and as soon as we do, faith is generated.

#3. Faith is a shield.

“Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.”Ephesians 6:16 NKJV.

In the spiritual realm, the Devil fights believers with spiritual fiery darts which he shoots to cause instant damage in their lives or properties. But with faith as a shield, the believer is covered .

Precious one, faith is an absolute requirement for Christian living. Without it, it is impossible to please God.

Prayer : Heavenly Father, as I build my faith in You let my life be filled with testimonies in Jesus’ name, Amen.
