Proverbs 22:1 “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.”

Have you ever thought about the status of your name? Would you say it is good? Do you even care how those around you view your name?

The story is told about Henry Heinz who helped support his family as a teenager by growing and selling vegetables in the family garden. After graduating from college and getting married, he started a business selling horse radish.

In 1875, a national financial collapse drove the young company into bankruptcy. Despite the legal freedom that bankruptcy gave him, Heinz regarded each of the company’s outstanding debts as a moral obligation and personally paid back every penny.

Heinz went on to found the H.J. Heinz Company with its 57 varieties and became a leading American businessman and a devoted Christian. He was known for the generous treatment of his employees and his generosity to Christian causes.

Precious one, just as Heinz chose a good name over riches, as God’s people, we must do same.
Here are 3 ways to keep a good name:

1.Be true to your word. Do all you can to fulfill your promises and carry out your commitments, whatever the cost.God warns us to choose our words carefully so that we can keep the promises we make. We are to be swift to hear but slow to speak James 1:19 (NKJV.)

2. Return borrowed items. Borrowing is often prompted by the urgency or need of the moment, with full intention to repay. When the pressure eases, however, loans are often forgotten by the borrower—but not by the lender. Scripture reveals the bad name you earn when you fail to return what was borrowed to you: “The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again . . .” (Psalm 37:21).

3. Maintain good business Practices. God sees every business transaction we make, and throughout Scripture He calls us to be honest and just. “You shall do no injustice in judgment, in measurement of length, weight, or volume. You shall have honest scales, honest weights, an honest ephah, and an honest hin: I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.”
Leviticus 19:35-36 (NKJV)

Precious one,a good name is more valuable than riches, because it can’t be bought with money. It has to be earned day in day out, and decision by decision.

Prayer : Heavenly Father, make me successful in my field of endeavour as I choose a good name over riches and make me a testimony to those who know me in Jesus’ name,Amen.
